Somali cuisine

Somali cuisine is different from region to region and is a mixture of Somali, Arabic, Italian, Persian, Turkish, Eritrean, Ethiopian, Indian and Pakistani influences.
For example, Ethiopian and Eritrean Injera (a kind of flatbread) in Somali Canjeero.Or the way to cook the rice corresponds to South Yemeni customs.
Since Somalia is an Islamic country, there are only "halal" (allowed by Islamic rule) foods prepared.Pork and blood, such as bloody steaks, and alcohol or food which was prepared with alcohol are not eaten and the meat is sacrificed according to Islamic ritual.

Some examples of Somali cuisine;
Canjeero is usually eaten for breakfast.
Either with ghee (subag, simmered butter) and sugar or with liver, onion and hot peppers.
For children Canjeero is prepared with tea and sesame oil.In the south, mostly Sambusa (dumplings filled with minced meat, tuna or vegetables) is eaten for breakfast.

Lunch (Qado) is the most important meal of the day. For lunch always, banana is served as a side dish.In the north soup belongs to the lunch, in the south rather salad and spicy sauce (Busbaas) with peperoncini, onions, garlic and possibly coconut.
The most common meal is rice (bariis) served with lamb, camel, goat or chicken, as well as fish. As a side dish, potatoes fried in ghee, carrots, onions and raisins (Zabiib)

More Meals are the follows:
Maize porridge (Soor), like polenta, is made with a stew of tomato meat and other vegetables or milk. Coarse ground corn (Soor Furfur) is served with tomato sauce, fish and vegetables, (Sanuuna).
In Marca (in the south) Soor Furfur is served with coconut milk and fish.
Burkaaki, like the Indian flatbread, comes with a stew of tomatoes, meats, carrots and peas.
And, Spaghetti with tomato sauce, banana and lemon juice.

Dinner (casho) is often boiled with red beans (anbuulo) served with sesame oil or ghee and sugar.
There is also corn bread (Mufo) in many different variants, depending on the region, served with sesame oil and honey, sliced meat or scrambled eggs with onion.
The most popular sweet is halwa. A firm jelly of sugar, spices like saffron and cardamom and ghee.
